Here are some frequently asked questions about UV tracers. Q: How do Risk Reactor water tracing products work? A: Risk Reactor Tracer's act as a coloring label on each drop of water. As that water or liquid travels, it can be identified at each point on its travel, until it reaches extreme dilution. What color of Risk Reactor should I use? A: What color of Risk Reactor you use will depend on the color of water, or type of water: Any color can be used in clear water. If the water were yellow, Risk Reactor IFWB-C7 Fluorescent Red would be best, especially if visual methods are used to estimate the dye concentration. If the water were a murky brown in color, Risk Reactor IFWB-C8 Fluorescent Yellow Green would be appropriate. Although the Risk Reactor IFWB-14 Visible Blue Non-Fluorescent Tracer and Stain may be used in tracing situations, it is not fluorescent and is limited to visual methods and for cosmetic purposes. Clients also use the IFWB-14 to dye swimming pools a Cancun shade of blue. Are Risk Reactor Products safe for the environment? A: Risk Reactor has many EPA acceptable and they are the only full line of tracer products certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) to the ANSI/NSF Standard 60 for use in potable water at recommended levels. They are biodegradable and safe for the environment. Use IFWB-C7, IFWB-C8, IFWB-33, and IFWB-14. Fluorescent dyes are relatively unreactive chemically, and in most cases do not interact with the "system". Which Risk Reactor water tracing product should I order? A. It depends on the usage and the amount of water involved, what you plan to use the product for, and how much water is involved. SMALL or MODERATE VOLUMES OF WATER- (0-50,000 gallons) Use Risk Reactor 1 ounce sizes to pints of our liquid concentrates. A. Septic system analysis LARGE VOLUMES OF WATER-50,000 gallons- Use Risk Reactor liquid concentrates. A. Leak detection FOR PROJECTS WHERE METERING OF INPUT INTO SYSTEMS IS REQUIRED- Use Risk Reactor liquid concentrates. A. Flow studies How much water will Risk Reactor color? A. There are a lot of different factors, which may effect how much Risk Reactor product you will need. Below are some rough guidelines. Tablets- As a general rule, 1 tablet will provide a strong visual in 60 gallons of water. Liquid concentrate-As a general rule, 1-pint will provide a strong visual in 2,000 gallons of water. How can I remove the dye? A. The color of all dyes will disappear if the solution is mixed with chlorine. Add approximately 4 grams of 12% bleach for every gram of product in the solution. Adding water will also dilute dye concentration and reduce coloration, or even eliminate color all together depending on volume of water added. What does PPM mean? A: PPM means parts per million. 1 PPM means the color of the product is visible in clear water at one part dye tracing product to a million parts water. 1 PPM in 10,000 gallons of water requires approximately 1 pint of dye tracing liquid concentrate. This is generally referred to as a strong visual concentration level. Certified To Meet EPA Standards This is a certification that these products conform to the ANSI/NSF Standard 60 for potable water as set forth by the EPA in The Clean Water Act. |
