How It Works

Phosphorescent pigment is the fundamental building block of glow-in-the-dark materials. PPSB-241LB works by absorbing ambient or UV light and then re-emitting it in the visible spectrum as a yellow-green glow. This charge-and-glow cycle can be repeated an infinite number of times with no degradation in performance. The pigment appears off-white in regular light — which is why we call it invisible — and transforms into a vivid yellow-green in the dark.

Compatible Mediums

PPSB-241LB is designed for non-water-based mediums. It can be used in water-based mediums for short-term applications (such as mixing and immediate use), but is not recommended for long-term water-based formulations. Compatible clear mediums include:

How to Use

Simply mix PPSB-241LB into your chosen clear, non-water-based medium and you'll have a high-performance glowing material. Follow these guidelines to maximize glow effectiveness:

• More powder = brighter, longer glow: A higher pigment-to-medium ratio produces stronger luminescence. Start at 30% by weight and adjust between 10%–50% based on your application and process.
• Use a white or light-colored background: Any color other than white will significantly reduce glow brightness. A white base layer reflects and amplifies the yellow-green emission.
• Use the clearest vehicle possible: Any tint or pigment in your medium will decrease both brightness and glow duration. The more transparent the base, the better the result.
• Apply thicker layers for stronger glow: A thicker coat produces longer and brighter afterglow — up to an optimal point for your application.
• Keep moisture out: Avoid moisture during mixing and manufacturing, as it can degrade the pigment’s crystal structure and reduce performance.
• Avoid high-acidity vehicles: If an acidic medium is required, keep your pot life short to minimize degradation.
• Never grind the powder: Grinding permanently destroys the crystal structure and reduces luminosity. Use the powder as-is, straight from the container.
• Low loading for invisible effect: At 10% loading, the pigment can appear nearly transparent in the coating — perfect for hidden glow applications.

Recommended Mix Ratio

Mix 10% to 50% glow powder by weight into your clear medium. 30% is the ideal starting point for most applications. Adjust up for maximum brightness or down for a more subtle, cost-effective, or near-invisible effect.
